Each
season the Sports Boosters presents to
one athlete from each Varsity Sport that demonstrates leadership, teamwork and academic excellence and
presents that athlete with a plaque for their outstanding ability to achieve
excellence both on and off the field. Please help us honor these athletes.
Fall 2008 STAR Awards go
to...
Matt Shutter, Boys Soccer
Shutter led the varsity boys’ soccer team to a 12-8 record. He finished
the season with 23 goals and 9 assists, posting five game-winning goals and two
hat tricks. He played multiple roles, positioned at midfield as well as at
the striker and sweeper positions, and was selected as the IAC Division 2
Co-MVP. He is the son of Ron and Peg Shutter of Alpine.
Allison Stamp, Girls Soccer
Stamp established herself as an impressive goalkeeper at the varsity level,
providing steady play all season long. She made 158 saves during the campaign,
and posted four shutouts. She is the daughter of Mike and Kaye Stamp of Montour
Falls.
Stephanie Collins, Girls Swimming
Collins is deemed one of the most dedicated members of the swim team, with a
strong work ethic that rubs off on her teammates, and a ready smile She
also works hard out of the pool with a weightlifting program, and excels in the
classroom. She is the daughter of Kevin and Kay Collins of Odessa.
Becky Van Skiver, Volleyball
Van Skiver has been a member of the varsity volleyball team for four seasons,
and was a captain this season. She was one of the most consistent passers on the
squad, and by the end of the season had become a key player in the back row as
well. She finished the season with 96 service points, 44 aces, 74 kills, and 115
digs. She was also named an IAC Division 2 All-Star Honorable Mention, and was a
part of the Exceptional Seniors team. She is the daughter of Dan and Roberta Van
Skiver of Odessa .
Josh Markley, Football
Markley is a three-year starter on the football team -- a versatile competitor
who has played tight end, split end, running back and quarterback on offense,
and defensive back, linebacker and defensive end. He was named to the Division 6
All Star Team the past two seasons, and is on the Honor Roll this year. He is
the son of Karen and Donny Gunning of Trumansburg.
